Strayer is disingenuous in advertising

In an ad that Strayer University placed in The Examiner newspaper (WashDC) on Oct. 30, 2006, the school implied that its MSCHE accreditation placed it in the same league as American University, Cornell, Penn State and the University of Maryland.
Whoa. The real story is that MSCHE accreditation also places Strayer in the same league as the Dominican House of Studies (48 students), Potomac College (252 students), Baltimore International College (501 students) and the Delaware College of Art and Design (151 students). Strayer does not mention that fact.
The important issue is whether or not the school's business degrees are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). All the "big name" schools have this accreditation; Strayer does not.

"Accreditation" appears to be a slippery term. It means different things to different people. I read about AACSB accreditation at www.aacsb.edu
I just read an article in the Arizona Republic of Dec. 5, 2006, that stated the the Intel Corporation will no longer pay for business courses taken by its employees at schools that lack AACSB accreditation. The University of Phoenix and Strayer University both lack this accreditation. According to the article, other large corporations are expected to follow Intel's lead.
The Middle States accreditation provides some basic level of validity to the curriculum being provided. This regional accreditation is important as it gives some measure of the legitimacy of the program. The AACSB accreditation at the professional MBA level ensures that core competencies are provided by qualified faculty. Not sure if the Strayer MBAs know that their degrees are not accreditated by AACSB. It is a murky area . . . the more you can keep students in the dark about their degrees, the more you can charge what you want for degrees that are worthless in the professional marketplace arena.

2 Star(s) awarded AACSB has become a rubber stamp where you go through a check list, do a lot of pap;erwork, and develop a substantial amount of metrics . . . persistance more than looking at the underlying quality of education . . . note that The George Washington University is AACSB and has developed a program to increase rankings by cutting down the size of its entering class and spending a lot of time on paperwork. I went through that program so I understand how universities can fudge the numbers.
0 Star(s) awarded Phoenix and Strayer are for losers, and that's a fact.
In light of Xanadu's belittling and ignorant comment, one must assume this entity never even attented a school or has the intelligence for basic manners. This blog has interesting opinions and facts both pro and against which makes for good discussion. Too bad the only loser here is a wanna be entity that does not reflect on the definition but an album from Olivia Newton John. Keep spinning those LP's, one day your knuckles may stop dragging on the ground.(could not resist!!)
